3.4.4 Safe@Home Process regarding Attendance at Initial Child Protection Conferences

This chapter was introduced in December 2011.


  • Invitation received at Safe@Home (S@H) regarding attendance at an Initial Child Protection Conference;
  • Admin Officer to research S@H Client database and note whether current/previous S@H client, which member/s of team involved;
  • Admin Officer to place in to folder for Duty Officer;
  • Duty Officer to contact the named Social Worker (featuring on letter of invite), to assess the need for a member of S@H to attend, taking into account  whether domestic abuse is a key feature of concern, and establish how recent;
  • Duty Officer to note outcomes on the letter of invite;
  • Where it is identified there is no requirement for a member of S@H team to attend, Duty Officer to submit letter of invite to Team Manager, for filing;
  • Where it is identified it is appropriate for a member of S@H team to attend, Duty Officer to bring to attention of Admin Officer;
  • Admin Officer to circulate the date/time/location of the Initial case Conference (and include any members of this team who have worked with the family), for the attention of the S@H team, to obtain a volunteer to attend;
  • Admin Officer to provide the letter to the volunteer and a copy of the letter to Team Manager, together with details of volunteer;
  • Admin Officer to bring to attention of Team Manager where no one able to volunteer.

Team Members attending are advised to take a Referral Form and the DASH Risk Assessment. A member of the family may wish to engage with S@H and it may be felt appropriate to take the referral there and then. Alternatively, the Referral form can be handed to the Social Worker, for submitting to S@H at a subsequent time.
