1. Introduction
The Neighbourhood Nursery believes that all children have the right to be cared for and educated alongside their peers, in order to develop to their full potential. Children learn from interaction with their environment and other children. By giving all children these experiences we are committed to the integration of all children within the nursery.
2. Process of Inclusion
Have a named and trained SENCO (Special Needs Co-ordinator) who will work closely with staff, parents/ carer etc to plan, implement, monitor, review and evaluate inclusion process within the nursery, and share information on a regular basis.
Operate a settling in period to encourage the child to feel happy and settled over a period of time and to feel a sense of belonging within the setting.
Work alongside parents / carers within the setting to help us to make an assessment of their child's specific needs whilst at nursery with an aim to support and develop them to their full potential.
Examine ways in which diversity can be valued and activities adapted to meet the individual child's learning needs.
Implement the Code of Practice (2002) with regard to the identification and assessment of children with special educational needs.
Through liaison with parents / carers and other professionals, find out as much as necessary about a particular child's condition and the way their needs are affected.
Acknowledge the importance of a link between home and nursery in meeting the child's individual needs.
To offer appropriate support to aid inclusion and ensure that the child can fully participate in the nursery activities. If necessary seek additional support in order to do this.
