8.16 Dress Code

This is a new policy, from January 2011. It should be read in its entirety.

In partnership with parents and carers, Wakefield MDC has duty of care to maintain safety and welfare of all children who access its Early Years Services. This includes a responsibility to ensure that children are cared for by appropriately presented staff who behave within an acceptable code of conduct.

  • Employees should be clean, free from body odour and wearing appropriate and smart clothing at all times.
  • Skirts or shorts must be knee length or below.
  • Jeans of any type are not allowed.
  • Sensible footwear should be worn at all times. This could include smart/clean and appropriate trainers. High heels are not permitted. It is advisable to bring indoor shoes such as pumps. Shoes must fit on the foot and have a hard back and enclosed toes.
  • Long hair should be tied back at all times.
  • Gloves should be worn if wearing nail varnish when handling food.
  • Rings, earrings and other jewellery must be kept to a minimum.
  • Where it is felt that tattoos may be intimidating, or are extensive, they should be covered. Body piercing should be minimal. Again, where this may be considered intimidating, it should be removed
  • Chewing gum is not permitted.
  • Only minimal logos/slogans are appropriate.
