1. Context and Scope
The Children Act 1989 and the National Minimum Standards for Children's Homes 2011, stress the importance of constructive contact with family, friends and significant others for children and young people who are Looked After.
This chapter relates to children’s homes. There is an overarching procedures for Children’s Social Care which should be read in conjunction with these chapters:
Contact With Parents and Siblings Procedure
Social Visits and Overnight Stays with Friends Procedure
2. Procedure
| 1.0 | Contact arrangements should be discussed at the time that a young person is admitted into the home and these arrangements should be recorded in the Placement Plan. |
| 1.1 | If there are any safeguarding issues regarding the contact arrangements, these must be clearly recorded and communicated to all staff. |
| 1.2 | Any restriction on contact arrangements, resulting out of the need to protect the young person, must be clearly recorded and communicated to all staff. |
| 1.3 | If there is a need for supervised contact in order to safeguard the young person, the necessary arrangements must be clearly communicated. Particular attention must be given to ensuring that all staff are aware of who has responsibility for supervising the contact and where contact will take place. |
| 1.4 | All staff have a responsibility for encouraging, facilitating and providing the practical support in order that the agreed contact arrangements for young people can take place. |
