In partnership with parents and carers, Wakefield MDC has duty of care to maintain safety and welfare of all children who access its Early Years Services. This includes a responsibility to ensure the appropriate application of ratios in line with Ofsted requirements to maintain health and safety, and the delivery of a quality service - and to ensure that the service is equitable and fair.

The Nursery is registered for _________________   children

____________Children between the ages of 0 and 2 years

____________Children between the ages of 2 and 3 years

____________Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years

The following criteria are taken into account in deciding which child can be offered a place in the nursery are:

  • Availability of spaces taking into account the room sizes, staff / child ratios, the age of the child and the registration requirements.
  • In order to keep fees more realistic, the nursery will recruit staff as needed. Therefore a waiting list will operate until there are numbers of children waiting that reflect a requirement for further staff recruitment.
  • The funding for the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative requires that priority of places be given to children living within targeted wards / postcodes and to those returning to employment & training.
  • When the application is received (extra weight is given to those who have been on the waiting list longest).
  • A child wanting a full-time place will usually have preference over one requiring part-time only.
  • Extenuating circumstances affecting the child's welfare or his/her family.
  • Children who are siblings of those already with us.

The Nursery will ensure that:

  • Children are cared for by suitable people who have a current Criminal Records check, and have the appropriate qualification and/or experience as required by Ofsted.
  • The amount of staff available will directly affect the amount of children accepted. More staff will be employed to cover any growing needs but this will be in line with the above procedures.
